Every year, the Junior Class at RVA picks a theme and creates a magical escape for the junior and senior class known as banquet (prom in other parts of the world). . . this year, Madeline’s class picked Lord of the Rings as the theme (much to her parents’ delight) and they proceed to transform the theatre space into Middle Earth. . .

Madeline was assigned the photo booth corner (which is a storage closet on a daily basis) and she and David spent weeks constructing columns and planning the transformation. . .

In the end, even though this year was designed to be scaled back from previous years, the transformation was amazing, and I wish I had taken more pictures – they entered through Bilbo’s study and Bilbo’s birthday party (complete with live actors) and their were art deco tableaus of all the lands. . .the dragon spit smoke and the mines of Moria were forever filled with laughing teenagers. . .here is a glimpse of Banquet and our beautiful Junior . . .
