Friends and Safaris
Some of our best friends came to visit us for several weeks, saying goodbye again was not fun. Arianna and Salli did pediatric residency together at UAB, Madeline and Rose grew up together, we had Joe and Annabelle months apart, and we’ve made many road trips between Birmingham and Thomasville in the years before (and even during) Kenya.
Tim and I spent hours and hours at the B’ham zoo with the kids when they were little – it was only fitting to take them to Ol Pejeta for a self guided safari during their time with us.
Highlights were nearly being charged by a baby elephant (he trumpeted at us and tried to look big and tough), the big elephant fight just outside our house, and feeding Baraka the old, blind rhino.
Salli and Arianna had a brutal few weeks in peds – lots of sick kids as the nursing strike wears on (no resolution anytime soon as the government has called for a redo on the elections). . .but it was so much better together. He continues to provide what we need when we need it. . .
