10 questions for Madeline.

10 questions for Madeline.

(asked at 18mo mark on March 19, 2016)

What do you like about school?

Well we have lots of friends and it is fun being at school. It is really fun the we get to hang out at lunch time.

What is your favorite thing to do here?

The adventures we have like going on hikes and even just building things.

What is different about school in Kenya?

That I don’t have to get up as early as I do in America. And I like the way the classes are organized . They are in an order I like them in. We have to walk up to school. It’s fun most of the time but sometimes it is a little annoying.

What is the hardest thing about living in Kenya?

Umm. . .it’s not exactly the hardest but you have to keep track of who is here and who is not because people are always going on home assignment – in America, it was short vacations. So, sometimes all of our friends are off and about, and Annabelle and I have to just play with each other.

What is your favorite adventure?

At Crescent Island we were following giraffes all over the park. I prayed for God to let us see a baby giraffe before we left. We saw lots of giraffes, but then as we were walking to our car we saw the baby giraffe in a field of sheep.

What is different about Kenya?

Before I moved here I always thought of Africa like savannah  and safaris and hippopotamuses and things like that, but it is really way different. Like it is not as normal as I would think to see a giraffe or hippo or any of those. What it is like is just school, normal hours, trails to Kijabe town – it is not at all like a safari. And there are cities.

What is your favorite memory since moving?

My favorite memory is probably getting pets and birthdays. I also remember when we were in the aberdares and elephants came into our camp. And going to crescent island. And seeing baby giraffes.

What do you want to tell your friends in America about Kenya?

I wish they could come visit. There are lots of monkeys in trees and the roads are really bumpy. There are acacia trees and lots of cactuses and the flowers bloom year round.

And for fun, what superpower would you want to have?

I would be able to fly so I could see the volcano and monkeys and sunset from above.

And what three words would you use to describe yourself?

Gregarious. I try to be gentle, and I love to learn.
